The story
On the quiet afternoon before Yom Kippur, the neighborhood grows peaceful as traffic hushes and families dress in white clothes. The child feels a prickly knot in their stomach: earlier that morning, in an argument over building blocks, they had knocked over their best friend's tower and walked away without a word. Sitting on a sunlit wooden bench beneath olive trees in the courtyard, their loving grandfather takes their hand and shows them an olive-wood pocket shofar carved with tiny leaves. “The shofar calls our hearts to listen,” Grandpa gently explains. “Saying sorry is the bravest bridge we can build.” Walking over together, the child looks their friend in the eye and whispers a sincere, heartfelt “I'm sorry.” The friend's face softens, a warm hug follows, and together they rebuild the tower twice as high. That evening, dipping crisp apples in golden honey, the child feels light as a feather, ready for a sweet and peaceful new year.
