The story
It is Christmas Eve. The family hangs the last bauble, sets a candle in the window as they do every year, and leaves gingerbread by the fire. At bedtime a tiny star tumbles into the snowy garden: it lights the way for Santa's sleigh, and its glow is fading. In a warm coat and Grandma's red knitted scarf, the hero sets off with a young reindeer through a moonlit forest of frosted pines to the lantern-lit village. Each kindness makes the star shine brighter: gingerbread shared with shivering carol singers, a lost puppy walked home, the red scarf given to an old neighbour clearing snow alone. At midnight, on the hill above the village, the hero lifts the star back into the sky as sleigh bells ring. On Christmas morning a new red scarf waits under the tree, with a note: “Thank you for lighting the way.”
