The story
The whole family is cooking for the new year: dumplings pinched shut one by one, red paper going up on the door, the floor swept clean of last year's luck. The child is given a red envelope and a job — to carry the wish they wrote to the very front of the lion dance. In the noise and the drums and the smoke of the firecrackers, they find out what the new year is actually for.
