The story
It is Halloween, and the child is building the best costume ever: a cardboard-box robot with bottle-top buttons and a wobbly foil antenna. The child draws a big goofy grin on a pumpkin, a grown-up carves it, and it glows on the doorstep. At sunset the whole street joins the costume parade: a tiny dinosaur, a bumblebee, a wizard whose hat keeps slipping, and one very stiff robot. Then a little white ghost with a swishing tail trots out of the hedge. Ghosts don't have whiskers! It is the family cat, tangled in an old sheet from the washing line, and everyone laughs. Holding a grown-up's hand, the child goes trick-or-treating along the lamp-lit street, saying thank you at every door. At home they share out the sweets: one for everyone, a handful for the friend whose bag split, and a cat treat for the ghost.
