The story
Some days feelings are small, and some days they grow big. When the block tower tumbles, the child feels cross: hot cheeks, tight fists, stompy feet. When a friend goes home, they feel sad: a heavy, droopy feeling and wet eyes. Before a swimming lesson, they feel worried: butterflies in the tummy. And on their birthday morning they feel so excited their legs won't stay still. A grown-up kneels beside them, helps them name each feeling and opens a calm-down basket full of ideas: belly breathing like blowing up a balloon, counting slowly to five, squeezing a squishy cushion, resting in a cosy calm corner, a big hug, and telling a grown-up how they feel. Every feeling is okay. Feelings come and go like rain and sunshine, and the child can choose what to do with them.
