The story
For as long as the child can remember, an old golden dog with a grey muzzle has been part of the family: warm on the rug, waiting at the door, always ready for a cuddle. One morning a grown-up sits close and gently says the honest words: the dog was very, very old, its body grew so tired that it stopped working, and the dog died. It didn't hurt, it was nobody's fault, and the dog can't come back. The child feels sad, then cross, then all mixed up, and the grown-up says every feeling is okay; they cry and hug together. The family fills a memory box with the dog's collar, a chewed tennis ball, photos and drawings, and plants a sunflower in the sunny spot where the dog loved to lie. At bedtime they share happy stories and laugh about all the socks the dog used to steal, and the child learns that love stays, always in their heart.
