The story
The child's team loses its first game and feels like giving up. They talk kindly about what went well, practice passing so everyone gets a turn, and make room for different ways to play. In the next game they help each other and finish proudly, whatever the score. The patched ball reminds them that teamwork and trying again matter more than a trophy.
