The story
The summer holidays stretch out with nothing planned in them, which turns out to be the point. The child keeps a jar: a shell, a ticket, a feather, a pebble that is exactly the right weight. By the last evening the jar is full, and looking through it they can tell the whole summer back to themselves, in order, without missing a day.
