Today is the child's check-up, so first they practise at home, checking Teddy with a toy doctor's kit. At the clinic, a kind doctor shows them each thing before using it. Through the cool, tickly stethoscope the child hears their own heartbeat: ba-dum, ba-dum! They stand tall against the height chart to see how much they have grown, and a little light peeks into each ear: all clear! Then comes a quick vaccination to help their body stay strong. “It will pinch for a moment,” the doctor says honestly. The child holds a grown-up's hand, takes a slow breath, counts to three, and it's over. On goes a plaster covered in stars. Walking home proud and tall, the child gives Teddy a star plaster too.
