The story
Ten, nine, eight... The child zips up a white space suit, buckles in beside a round, beeping robot co-pilot and counts down with mission control. Blast-off! The sky turns from blue to velvet black, and inside the cabin everything floats: crayons, a juice pouch, even the child's giggles. Halfway there, the antenna sticks and the voices from Earth turn crackly. The robot shines a torch, the child turns the little crank, and together, one careful click at a time, they free it, and a cheer comes through loud and clear. Circling the Moon, they watch the blue Earth rise over the grey horizon. Then they land, and the child bounces in giant, slow-motion hops and leaves one bootprint in the silver dust. At last they fly home, three striped parachutes blooming, for a gentle splashdown in a sparkling sea.
